Hurry up and wait! Lessons on Patience

06.02.23 | Lisa Michelle | No Comments

Have you ever heard the expression, “hurry up and wait?” It made me laugh when I first heard it a few weeks ago and I’ve been mulling it over ever since.

Very often, we find ourselves planting the seeds for what we desire in life. Whether it’s a literal garden or something more metaphorical, we usually try to do everything in our control to make our plans come to fruition. But in most cases, there comes a waiting period between setting the intention and achieving the desired outcome.

Some examples…

If you’re making a career transition or applying to new jobs, you may experience waiting periods between submitting applications, interviewing, and receiving offers.

When it comes to health and healing, waiting is an unavoidable aspect of the process. You may be waiting for test results, medical appointments, or treatment plans. Recovery and healing require patience as the mind and body repair themselves over time.

Personal growth is another lifelong journey that demands patience. Learning new skills, breaking old habits, and achieving personal milestones take time. It often requires persistence and perseverance, as progress can be gradual and incremental. (This is why I love a good journaling practice. Nothing better than reading old entries to see how far you’ve come!)

Or perhaps you’re looking for a romantic partner. Finding someone compatible and building a meaningful relationship typically takes time. To meet them in the first place, there’s often the journey of being open to it, putting yourself out there, and going out on dates. And then when you do meet someone special, it’s best not to rush intimacy. Deep relationships are nurtured over time.

In all of these scenarios, there comes a point where you have to let go and trust the Universe. This can be the most challenging task, especially when we care so much about the outcome.

But I believe there’s potential for magic in the waiting. What comes up for you while you wait? How can you use this time to reflect and appreciate the process? How can you honor and celebrate your efforts leading up to it? What can you savor about the journey?

Sometimes this is all easier than done of course. But I truly believe that if we trust in the Universe, the Universe will deliver. And while the results may not always align with our initial expectations, I have faith that they frequently exceed them in remarkable ways.

I’d love to hear from you! Do you have any stories or thoughts to share about being patient and trusting in the universe’s timing while actively pursuing your personal goals? Replies are always welcome.

Have a lovely weekend!
